How to Install Android TV on the Fire TV 2.
This tutorial is broken down into numerous sections as there is a lot to do. You can
jump to any section by clicking on it.
Section 3 - Install the Android TV Launcher.
Step 1
Do NOT download the most recent version of the Android TV Launcher as it has issues with
the Fire TV remote not functioning on the home screen. Instead download version
1.1.6.2973566 from September 3, 2016.
Download it here.
Step 2
Sideload the file to the Fire TV using adbLink. Click the Install APK button.
Select the file and click Open.
Confirm the install and click Yes.
adbLink will display the running job.
Section 4 - Install the Xposed Framework.
Step 1
I downloaded xposed-v87-sdk22-arm64.zip
from here. Click on the
sdk22 link. If there is a new version number available, the next would be 88, then you
may want to download that instead.
Keep in mind the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick 1st and 2nd generation models, are all based on
Android 5.0 - API 22 according to Amazon’s specifications page
here.
Because of this, that's why we're only looking for the file in the sdk22 section. Fire
TV 2nd generation is 64 bit, Fire TV 1st generation is 32 bit. Both Fire TV sticks are
32 bit. You'll want to download the appropriate framework file.
Step 2
To install the xposed-v87-sdk22-arm64.zip file we will use the same program we used to
install the 5.2.4.0 firmware: TWRP.
Place the file on your USB drive.
Reboot the Fire TV: Settings, Device, Restart.
At the selection screen pick Launch Recovery.
Once you are at this menu screen click the Install button.
Select the xposed-v87-sdk22-arm64.zip file.
Click the button with the three arrows on it right next to where it says Swipe to confirm
Flash in the bottom right corner. The process will start immediately.
Click the Reboot System button when it's finished.
Step 3
I downloaded the XposedInstaller_3.1.1.apk
from here.
Step 4
Use adbLink to sideload the XposedInstaller_3.1.1.apk file. Click the Install APK button.
Select the file and click Open.
Once it has finished installing, go to the Fire TV and launch it. Go to Settings and
then Applications.
Select Manage Installed Applications.
It should say Show All Applications.
Scroll down the list to Xposed Installer and select it.
Select Launch application.
Here's the biggest warning message I've ever seen. You might want to read it...
At this screen if it says the Xposed Framework version [number] is active, you're set.
Leave this program open, we'll be coming back to it soon.
Section 5 - Install the HDXPosed module.
Step 1
Download the HDXPosed module
here.
Step 2
Use adbLink to sideload the module. Click the Install APK button.
Select the file and click Open.
Step 3
On the Fire TV go back to the Xposed Installer which should still be open, otherwise
relaunch it. Click on the three lines in the top left corner of the screen.
Click on Modules.
On the HDXPosed entry click the check box on the right to activate it.
Restart the Fire TV.
